Home Plans & Prices Who can Build Specifications? Where can I build? How long will it take? About Kit-setMe homes
How easy is it? Most kit-set houses are merely the same materials and processes that a skilled builder will use. Hardly a kit-set, more of a Self Build. Kit-setMe homes are genuine kit-sets. You will not so much be a Builder, as an Assembler. There are no gib walls, no fluffy insulation, timber for only decks and piles. Steel bearers are all pre-cut and pre-drilled for all your pipes and cables. The wall panels are individually numbered and already have all the holes for electricity and plumbing. Even the roof panels are pre-drilled for your lights. The windows are very easy and quick to fit, taking about two hours to install all of them. We even pre-wire the fusebox. Traditional houses are delivered to site in many stages. A Kit-setMe house comes in one delivery with everything, apart from the concrete for the piles. With a traditional house there is a lot of wasteage. Because Kit-setMe homes are all prefabricated, there is very little wastage, and a lot less waste packaging material to be disposed of at the end of the job. Building a house is a large project. Most people simply can’t afford to take 4 or 5 months off work to build a house. Our LARGE house can be build in less than a month, making it an achievable task. Traditional concrete foundations usually take several weeks before you have the floor down. With a kit-setMe house, the floor should be finished and fully insulated within 4 days. And after about 10 days, you should have the roof on and windows in. Secure and basically weather-tight. You need very little technical knowledge. A traditional build requires a good working knowledge of how to read architectural drawings, names of all the parts, and good building skills. A Kit-setMe home has a full, step-by-step assembly manual, packed with lots of 3D drawings, photos and guides for each step. For instance, you may not know what a 15mm swivel fitting is, or indeed, anything about plumbing. So we include a full list of all your plumbing parts, with photos of each part, a schematic drawing of how it all goes together, and a parts map, which has a picture of every plumbing fitting, where it goes, which way around it goes. Your job is merely to DRY ASSEMBLE the plumbing. And let the plumber do what he or she has been trained to do - make the final connections. The same goes for the power. You only pay for skilled craftsman when you need to. There is no point is paying a skilled craftsman to drill hundreds of holes in timber framing. So all our steel bearers, composite walls, and roof come pre-drilled. You don’t pay for a craftsmans time to design and plan electrical and plumbing systems. We’ve already done that. You pay them for their skill at doing the final connections and testing. Building Inspections. Whereas most houses require 12 or more Council Building Inspections, each of which you pay for, a Kit-setMe home needs just 3 inspections. (plus drainage) And at $200+ or so an inspection, we save you another hidden extra that other kit-sets usually do not include. Minimal scaffold & no safety nets. (Temporary Work Platforms). Trestles only required at low level and for a short time for each roof panel. Height is well under 2m, so full scaffold not required. There is no roof space to fall through, so no nets required either - saving $000's off the cost of a traditional build. Time is money. Once you have paid a deposit for a house, or Council Consent fees, that is dead money until the house is finished. With a typical build time of 4 weeks, you can start using your investment 4 or five months earlier than a traditional build. If you are building your house as an investment rental, then 4 or five months rental is a considerable amount of money. So long as you can use a tape measure, a level and a drill gun, you should have no problem building a Kit-setMe home. The bearers are all pre-cut The floor is pre-insulated The walls and roof are pre-cut, pre insulated & pre-painted. Power sockets are pre-cut. The skirtings, covings, door frames are all pre-cut and pre-painted. All pipes and cable, fittings are supplied. panels are pre-drilled for all cables & pipes. The plumbing and electrical work still has to be done by licensed tradesman. But you can put everything in place for them. Benchtops are all pre-cut. The building Inspector will ensure everything is done to standard. We are always on hand by phone & email. Everything arrives on site in one 40’ container. Use our Building Consent Guide to help you do your own consent to save more money.
