Who can Build It Anyone can build their own home - you do not need to be a “Licensed Building Practitioner” (a builder). But you can use one if you want, and you need to if it’s not a “Self Build” Unlike most kit-set homes, you do not need to be skilled in cutting timber, or fixing and jointing gib or even painting. It is a real kit-set. Most parts come pre-manufactured and pre-painted. No timber frames or trusses. No concrete slab. But you do need a helper or two. There are lots of 3D drawings and photos to guide you assemble each stage. Everything is supplied, apart from concrete for the piles An Easy to follow Assembly Manual is included. The only nails are in the deck. Every step is simpler, easier and quicker than a traditional build. All plumbing fittings are easily accessible after construction. Restrictions for “DIY Self Build”. All work will still have to comply with the Building Code. You still need Building Consent. It has to be built according to the Consented Plans You cannot have self-built another home within the past 3 years You must own the land ( a mortgage is OK) You can’t pay any unlicensed people to help on “Restricted Work”, but you don’t need to be a “Licensed Builder” either. You must either live in, or intend to live in the house you build. You still have to run a safe site, and make sure there are no accidents, complying with Health & Safety rules. DIY builds permitted by government - save yourself the labour cost. http://www.building.govt.nz/getting-started/stages-of-the-building-process/diy-but-build-it-right/ You must submit a "Form 2" Owner/builder declaration.
